November promises to bring us an exciting election on many levels. No race will be more important for the ‘people’ of Michigan than the campaign for Justice of our Michigan Supreme Court. Three of the seven seats will be up for your consideration. The two men in the race don’t have what it takes when compared to the women candidates. I have been involved in Michigan judicial campaigns for almost three decades. I have never been more impressed with a candidate for Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court than I have with Bridget Mary McCormack.

Bridget Mary McCormack is a veteran litigator and legal educator. She is a law professor and the Dean for Clinical Affairs at the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor. In 2011, she was presented with the Patriot Award for her work to uphold American constitutional values. This is in addition to the Justice For All Award she received in 2010 for her groundbreaking work as founder and co-director of the Michigan Innocence Clinic. After graduating from New York University Law School, she started her legal career as trial counsel at the Legal Aid Society and then the Office of the Appellate Defender. She taught advocacy and professional responsibility at Yale Law School and supervised litigation in state and federal courts. Upon returning to Michigan, she founded and is co-director of the Michigan Innocence Clinic. She also launched a pediatric advocacy law clinic focusing on children with health problems and a domestic violence clinic.

So how can you help support Bridget Mary McCormack if you like what you’re hearing?

  • If you would like to meet her, some friends and I will be hosting an evening event at the home of Jim McClurken and Sergei Kvitko, 1348 Cambridge Road, Lansing, Michigan, on April 11 2012 from 5:30 to 7:30. Stop by and say “hello.”
  • If you live in Michigan and are registered to vote, go to the non-partisan part of your ballot and vote Bridget Mary McCormack in November 2012.
