Have you ever tried to solve, or better yet, succeeded in solving the Rubik’s Cube? If you’re a Rubik’s Cube fanatic, you might be interested to know that international researchers recently discovered that the popular cube can be solved in 20 moves or less.
In computer time lent to them by Google, a team of international researchers set out on the quest to decipher the mysteries of the Rubik’s Cube. Specifically, at the crux of the quest to determine the lowest number of moves it takes to solve the puzzle. The study is but one of many in the seemingly endless search to reveal the secrets of the game. However, it is the only study to actually find the most efficent way to solve the puzzle. In fact, researchers began their quest 30 years ago to answer this question.
A Rubik’s Cube has 26 colored cubes and was invented by Erno Rubrik in 1974. According to the scientists on the team, every person using an algorithm to try to solve the cube. However, for most people this takes at least forty moves. Thus, researchers aptly call the least amount of moves "God’s Algorithm"–assuming that an almighty power would be able to solve the puzzle in less moves than a human being.
