Freezing rain caused many traffic delays and crashes on Michigan roads over the past few days, including a multiple car pile up on I-96 near Brighton. Thankfully, an increase in temperature improved road conditions such that driving has become safer.

Car accidents can still occur even though icy roads have improved, so please make sure to drive carefully even if you think the roads are safe. Make sure to leave plenty of room between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you in case of emergency stopping by cars ahead of you. Don’t forget to check your blind spots when changing lanes, you may not notice a car to either side of you when only checking your mirrors. Always remember to wear your seat belt to help prevent serious injuries if you are involved in an accident.

Keep these safe driving tips in mind and you will increase the chances of avoiding injuries while traveling during the winter.
