Giving Thanks for Families

Comments Off

Every year, Thanksgiving gives us a chance to reflect on the things in our life we can be grateful for.  For dozens of families in Michigan and across the U.S., this week in November is an answer to everything they’ve been asking for, as many pending adoptions are finalized prior to the holiday weekend.   November is National Adoption Month, and the Saturday before Thanksgiving is traditionally considered National Adoption Day.

Michigan Supreme Court Participates in Michigan Adoption Day

In Michigan, many courts celebrated Adoption Day on Tuesday, November 25.  This is the 12th year the State of Michigan has officially observed this event.  All over the state, families gathered and celebrated at courthouses as orders of adoption were entered and stories of love and connection were shared.

The Michigan Supreme Court hosted an Adoption Day event for the third consecutive year.  Justice Mary Beth Kelly and DHS Director Maura Corrigan provided some opening remarks, followed by judges from three Michigan counties entering orders of adoption in front of a courtroom packed with jubilant adoptive families.

Forever Families

National, state, and local adoption-awareness events help bring attention to children waiting for a permanent, stable, and safe place to call home.  As more and more families open their hearts and homes to children of all ages, infant to teenager, we come closer to the goal of every child having a forever family.  And after this week, many parents and children will have something wonderful to be thankful for.

May you and your family have a happy, safe, and healthy Thanksgiving.
