Michigan needs new leadership in Lansing. We can’t always pick when the time is right to do something. Sometimes the time picks you. The time is now for Michigan Senator and Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer to run for Michigan Governor in 2014.
Senator Whitmer was born in Lansing, raised in East Lansing, and earned a BA in Communications and her law degree (magna cum laude) from Michigan State University. She has worked in the Ingham County Prosecutor’s office, judicial internships and for the AFL-CIO, and in private practice as a lawyer before being elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, then the State Senate where her colleagues chose her to be the Senate Democratic Leader.
Her background has paved the way for her to be the voice of the people of Michigan, particularly in the last 6 months as the GOP here has begun to run roughshod over us and her strenuous objection. She has exposed the Republican anti-choice legislation, helped lead the charge against elected women legislators being silenced on the House floor, called out the Republican Speaker for undermining the democratic election process, and shining light on deliberate fraud in the process. She has been there on education and on behalf of teachers. She has taken on our Attorney General and Secretary of State. Now I know she is ready to take on our governor if he decides to run for reelection.
Senator Whitmer has been our local, statewide, and national voice in opposition to the lame duck political carnage, pointing out not only how bad the legislation is for people but the procedural deception of the public. Much of the last 2 weeks of anti-worker, anti-women, anti-people legislation has been passed knowing new representatives are coming in after the 1st of the year, in the dead of the night, with little or no debate, simply rammed down our throats because they can.
This has to stop and I hope Senator Gretchen Whitmer will lead the charge for PEOPLE.
