This morning, the Frick Park bridge in Pittsburgh collapsed, resulting in 10 injuries. Reports indicate that four or five vehicles were also stranded in the wreckage. Thankfully, the injuries appear to be minor according to reports from the scene. The bridge had been listed in poor condition prior to the collapse.
Although catastrophic infrastructure failures are relatively uncommon, they are not unheard of. When they do happen, injury, loss of life, and economic harm can be devastating.
