As the snow piles up on roadways, it is particularly important to slow down and be careful–one quick or careless move could mean an accident. Unfortunately, for many drivers on Tuesday night, that was the case. According to local mid-Michigan law enforcement agencies, law enforcement officials responded to at least 40 accidents on Tuesday night because of icy roadways.

In fact, roads in Lansing were so treacherous on Tuesday that police were forced to shut down eastbound Interstate 96 between Cedar Street and U.S. 127 between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. because of a number of accidents.

Overall, Lansing police responded to at least 20 accidents, including one that involved a police officer who was already attending to a car accident. The State Police also responded to 8 accidents, and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 12 accidents. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in any of the reported accidents on Tuesday night.
