According to reports, on June 25, 2010, a Honda driven by Robert Schimming pulled out of a private driveway and was struck by an SUV. The crash happened on 84th Street SE in Caledonia. Mr. Schimming’s car had three passengers, including two adults, Shirliann Schimming and Sindi King, and an 8-month old child. All three adults in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, however, the 8-month old child was air lifted from the scene to Spectrum Health Butterworth hospital. The child’s current condition is not known at this time.

The SUV rolled onto it’s side and caught fire following the crash, fortunately its two occupants, both teenagers, who were not seriously injured according to reports. The Honda was stuck to the SUV following the crash and local residents were able to disengage the two vehicles using towing straps. Due to the severity of the impact, the doors on the Honda were crushed and not able to be opened prior to emergency crews arriving.

It is not entirely clear why the Honda pulled out into the pathway of the oncoming SUV, hopefully police will be able to figure it out. However, it will be difficult since all three adult passengers died in the crash. Fortunately, the two teenagers survived the crash and hopefully the 8-month old child is able to recover.
