The novel coronavirus pandemic has resulted in varying degrees of “lock down” or “stay home” orders across the country.  Millions of people suddenly found themselves at home for extended periods of time, resulting in dozens of quarantine fads ranging from recreating historic artwork, to baking bread, to making whipped instant coffee, and more.  And while many people are grateful for the green light to get out into the world again, some at-home trends might continue for long after quarantine orders are lifted.

According to a Google report closely watched by advertisers and marketers, consumer behavior is likely to reflect some significant changes due to the lengthy isolation periods most of us have experienced.  Many businesses have pivoted to delivery, curbside, or other contactless services in order to survive, and consumers seem to be embracing the ability to obtain almost anything they need from the comfort of their own homes.  In some cases, quarantine was the nudge some industries need to belatedly jump into the world of online commerce.

Time will tell whether these consumer trends continue after the country opens up again.
