Extra Servings of Red Meat, Poultry or Fish … Good for Your Heart and Arteries?

The experts have weighed in on this question – a thirty (30) year study from 1985 to early 2002, with follow-up data led to release of this data in the spring of 2019. Associations of Processed Meat, Unprocessed Red Meat, Poultry, or Fish Intake With Incident Cardiovascular Disease and All-Cause Mortality | Cardiology | JAMA Internal Medicine | JAMA Network   According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, eating two (2) servings of unprocessed red meat or processed foods (hot dogs, sausages, lunch meats, etc.) every week, is positively associated with a small increased risk of all cause mortality, but poultry and fish were not.  Additionally, like processed meats and unprocessed red meat, poultry was also associated with a small increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Fish was not associated with any increased risk for either cardiovascular disease or all cause mortality events.  However, fish has recently come under fire for increased risk of environmental toxins as our waters become increasingly polluted.  A health plant based diet, lowered stress and exercise will help keep the development and effects from cardiovascular disease to a minimum.
