Tesla, the high-end electric vehicle maker, has announced it will recall more than 134,000 sedans and SUVs due to problems with the touchscreens.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had requested the recall in January, although Tesla initially resisted the action.

The recall stems from potentially faulty touchscreens, which could fail to work if the memory chip controlling the device runs out of storage capacity.  The touchscreen console controls important safety features such as the back-up camera, defroster, and defogger.

According to reports, this issue has been known to Tesla users for some time now.  Some owners say that Tesla has charged them to fix the issue, although official recalls should be covered by the manufacturer.  Tesla has stated it will pay to replace the part and reimburse owners who have been charged for the fix.
