Around noon today, Lansing Board of Water and Light employees were drilling a foundation for a new electric pole when they evidently struck a gas line at the 800 block of Cleveland Avenue in Lansing, Michigan. The Lansing Fire Department and a hazardous materials team responded to the site, and about 10 homes were evacuated.

The leak is expected to be under control by the middle of the afternoon.
