One man was seriously injured yesterday morning as two vehicles collided at the intersection of New Holland Street and 144th Avenue in Ottawa County, Michigan. Both vehicles came to rest on their sides after the crash. A 20-year-old Holland man was taken to Holland Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. The driver of the other vehicle, who hails from Zeeland, was treated and released.

Authorities attribute the crash to dense early morning fog. Fog can reduce visibility to dangerously low levels in some areas, meaning drivers should slow down and drive defensively. Even highly trained law enforcement officers are hesitant to drive in these conditions, as they are exposed to a higher-than-normal risk of being struck during a traffic stop.

If you must drive through heavy fog, be sure to exercise extreme caution. You may not be able to see trouble until it is too late.
