Hot pockets, the popular microwavable sandwiches produced by Nestle, are being recalled due to food safety risks.  Over 762,000 pounds, or about 381 tons, of the pepperoni pizza pockets are covered by the recall.  According to reports, the product could contain glass or hard plastic.  Specific carton information can be found here.

So far, there is one report of a minor injury.  However, the health risk is categorized as “High” by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).  The Class I recall means the product presents a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death, according to the USDA website.  Nestle has warned that the product cause choking or laceration.

Because the product is frozen and can be stored for over a year, there is some risk of consumers forgetting about the recall by the time they are ready to prepare and eat the product.
