Well, it couldn’t hurt, according to a former Democratic House Leader and spokeswoman for Reform Michigan Government Now. Dianne Byrum was quoted in the Lansing State Journal as saying “This proposal is not about any one individual in elective office today. This is about creating a state government that works for people.” Byrum believes this proposal is just the prescription we need to reduce the high cost of government.
As a life-long Republican and treasurer for Reform Michigan Government Now, Harland Nye believes that he is helping to “change our broken government,” and that “many of these ideas have been espoused by prominent Republican leaders for years.”
This proposal would reorganize the Michigan courts by shrinking appellate courts, whose case load is down by 25%, and adding local judges where they are needed.
Additionally, the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General would have their salaries cut by 25%. Absentee ballots would be available for any reason and campaign finance laws would be toughened and improved to increase openness.
Who could argue with any of these changes? Beware of the onslaught of TV ads paid for by big business. This is a great opportunity for people – let’s support this proposal.
