At the annual Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) convention, Lawyer Gerry Spence gave a presentation that outlined why he believes trial lawyers are more important today than doctors. Mr. Spence, who was the recipient of the CAOC’s Lifetime achievement Award, stated "[t]here is no other profession in America that fights for freedom, that fights for what America is about, that fights for justice for ordinary people."
During his presentation, Mr. Spence ridiculed individuals like U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and the Bush administration for destroying the American justice system. These people along with insurance companies and big business have vilified America’s trial lawyers.
So while doctors take care of your body and mind, Mr. Spence believes that trial lawyers are more important because they protect your freedom and give ordinary people a voice regardless of race, economic status, or lack of education.
