It’s time again for many Americans’ least favorite day of the year: the day we switch over to Daylight Saving Time. Sunday morning at 2 a.m., we lose an hour and our clocks "Spring Forward" to 3 a.m. For most of us, this means potentially losing an hour of sleep, although you may want to consider turning in early tonight to avoid any sleep disruption.

The history of Daylight Saving Time is full of fun facts, and its origins are surprisingly green. The theory is if we spend more of our waking hours during daylight, we’ll expend less energy illuminating our activities with artificial light. There is even some evidence that an extra hour of daylight could reduce the number of auto accident related injuries.

One other important thing to remember about Daylight Savings Time – change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. When you change your clocks, change your batteries. The former will prevent you from being late, while the latter could save your life.
