This Saturday, a Lansing man was struck by a train at the railroad tracks at Michigan Avenue near Pere Marquette in Lansing. According to the witnesses, the man was walking along the tracks just before the Southbound CSX train struck him at about 3:45 p.m.

According to Lansing police Sgt. Susan Baylis, the train engineer attempted to stop the train before hitting the man, but was unable to do so. Police haven’t released the identity of the victim, but witnesses living near the scene report that the man was a part of the area’s homeless community.

The stopped train blocked off Michigan Avenue for more than one hour. The train was en route from Grand Rapids to Detroit. Police are investigating the accident to figure out what exactly happened, and if the man committed suicide.
