Sexual Assault Awareness Month begins today. There are many opportunities to be part of helping to education people and increase awareness about sexual assault and human trafficking. On MSU’s campus we have helped sponsor a series of speakers to help those in need. “Finding Our Voice: Sister Survivors Speak,” has been a collaboration by the MSU Museum and the Army of Survivors. April 16, 2019, will be a tree planting recognition.
The Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence has established a hotline – a toll-free confidential emotional support number for sexual assault survivors to call: 855-VOICES4 (855-864-2374) http://www.mcedsv.org/hotline.html. Elinor Jordan is the lead attorney for the Survivor Law Project at MCEDSV.
Melissa Novock, JD, a human trafficking prevention specialist, recently provided our entire law office with an afternoon training session to better understand how to provide assistance to survivors. We all can learn more. If you are a survivor of human trafficking, state legislator, journalist, or anyone wanting to learn more about criminal record relief or efforts to improve individual state statutes, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Polaris is an organization devoted to helping survivors.
