A former priest, who served parishes in Lansing and East Lansing, is headed to trial after he was bound over to Circuit Court in Genesee County on seven Criminal Sexual Conduct charges.

Vincent DeLorenzo is charged with four counts of first-degree and three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Some of his charges stem from conduct related to the sexual abuse of a 5-year-old boy in 1987 after a family funeral. Other charges relate to alleged touching and digital penetration of an elementary aged child from 1995-2000. DeLorenzo is alleged to have inappropriately touched the child more than a hundred times.

DeLorenzo was removed from active ministry in 2002 following complaints from another child that he was abused by the priest. At the time he resigned, he admitted he had sexually abused a child. It’s unclear what exactly he admitted to or who the victim was of his admission. Prosecutors declined to charge DeLorenzo at that time.

Although his final assignment was serving the Holy Redeemer Church in Burton, Michigan, DeLorenzo also served parishes all over Michigan including St. Thomas Aquinas in East Lansing, St. Joseph and St. Augustine in Kalamazoo, St. Casimir in Lansing, St. Pius X in Flint and St. Robert in Flushing.

Attorney General Dana Nessel stated her office “will not rest until we have pursued every victim’s complaint.”
