CPSC Announces Recall of Two Children's "Horse" Toys Due to Reports of Near-Strangulation

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recalls of several horse-related children’s toys after receiving reports of two near-strangulations.

First, about 8,800 horse-on-a-stick toys imported by Big Ideas Marketing, of Owings Mills, Md were recalled because the reins on the toys are long enough to become tangled around a child’s neck. In fact, a 2-year-old boy was nearly strangled to death after the reins became entangled around his. Thankfully, his mother freed him and he suffered no injuries. The second recall involves about 1,200 rocking horses imported by Rocking Horse Depot, of Buckeye, Ariz. Again, the reins on the toy are long enough to form a loop and strangle children. In fact, the CPSC has received one report of near strangulation involving a 21-month old girl who became entangled in the reins at her neck.
