Amidst a slew of other nationwide sex abuse settlements, the Catholic Diocese of Savannah, Georgia has also announced a $4.2 million settlement with a 40-year-old man who alleges a former priest molested him.

Savannah native Allan Ranta filed a civil suit in 2008, stating that former priest Wayland Y. Brown molested him from 1978 to 1983 at the St. James Catholic School. Ranta was between 10 and 14 years old when the abuse occurred and alleges that the Diocese purposefully ignored signs that Brown was a danger to other children at the school.

Brown was already convicted in 2003 of molesting two other boys in Maryland. However, he was released in April 2008 after serving only half of his sentence.
