Burley Trailer Design has recalled thousands of Burley child trailers because a defect in the product can cause the wheel to separate from the trailer and fall off.
The recall covers 2009 d’lite ST and Solo ST two-wheeled child trailers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that the recall affected 2,700 trailers made by Burley Design LLC of Eugene, Oregon.
Apparently, a sleeve inside the axle assembly of the wheel can loosen and cause the wheel to come of off the trailer, creating a risk of injury to the child riding in the trailer or to the bike rider. So far, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries. The trailers were sold by bike and specialty outdoor retailers and on the internet from November 2008 to June 2009.
