Three sorority sisters were killed in a tragic wrong-way accident last Friday near Bowling Green State University in Ohio. According to reports, police followed the wrong-way driver for several miles before it barely missed a first car full of sorority sisters and then proceeded to hit a second car on Interstate 75 in Toledo.
The five Alpha Xi Delta sisters were on their way to the Detroit Airport for a Spring break trip to the Dominican Republic with eleven other sorority sisters. Sophomore Christina Goyett, junior Sarah Hammond and junior Rebekah Blakkolb were killed on impact, as well as the wrong-way driver whose car was engulfed in flames. It is unknown why Winifred D. Lein, 69, the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was heading the wrong direction for at least 7 miles. Two other girls were also injured in the accident and were listed in critical condition.
Sheriffs say that there was no way for the girls to avoid the accident. The tragedy is yet another in the past week that has rocked the state of Ohio. Three students were also fatally shot at Chardon High School east of Cleveland, and two others were critically wounded.
