If you slept safe and sound last night, you can thank a veteran. In parts of the US, events are starting today to honor our nation’s veterans. The holiday which is recognized in other parts of the world as Armistice Day, falls on the anniversary of signing the armistice that ended World War I.
All across Michigan, proud citizens and veterans will be celebrating Veterans Day at various special events planned for Thursday, November 11, 2010. The City of Flint will celebrate Veterans Day with a motorcade from Flint City Hall to the Hasselbring Senior Center at 11 a.m., with a lunch and program to follow. Also at 11, there will be a special Veterans Day ceremony at the Great Lakes National Cemetery near Holly. In Burton, there will be a Veterans Day tribute dinner at the Senior Center, where the wife of a World War II veteran shot down by the Germans and held captive as a prisoner of war will speak to those gathered there.
