A Swedish teenager has miraculously "grown" her face back after suffering a severe allergic reaction to a household painkiller. The girl, now 19 years old, spent the past four years recovering from the reaction which caused parts of her face to blacken, blister and fall off.
Eva Uhlin took Paracetamol tablets (similar to acetaminophen) during a holiday break in 2005 when she was 15-years-old. A doctor suggested she take the medication since she had a fever and had taken the medication before without any allergic reaction. Nevertheless, when she woke up the next day she found blisters covering her body.
The condition, known as toxic epidermal necrolysis, can be deadly. Not only did parts of Uhlin’s face fall off, but parts of her stomach, chest, arms, and back also fell off. At one point, Uhlin said her face was so disfigured that her lips had grown together. However, she recently stated that she never gave up hope that she would recover. While her recovery was slow and painful, Uhlin is now able to lead a normal life once again.
