A dentist already on probation for his connection to the death of a 6-year-old child has allegedly taken the life of another child due during a routine medical procedure. That man, Dr. Patrick Bamgboye, age 64, is being investigated by New Jersey officials after a 3-year-old boy undergoing a routine cavity filling procedure died while under local anesthesia.
According to reports, the boy was restrained in a cocoon-like papoose on February 8 as the dentist was filling his cavities. After receiving the local anesthesia, the boy's body went limp, his lips turned blue and he stopped breathing. He was taken to the hospital but pronounced dead. Dr. Bamgboye was already on probation for the death of a 6-year-old girl in 2004. That child was also placed in a "papoose" and given local anesthesia but stopped during the procedure.
A medical examiner argued that the little girl died as a result of natural causes, including cerebral palsy. However, officials with The Board of Dentistry investigated the incident and filed a complaint against the doctor, suspended him for three months and placed him on probation for an additional 21 months. The girl's mother was traumatized by the news of the second death of a child under Bamgboye's care and says that two deaths cannot be a coincidence. Attorneys for both families are pushing for the revocation of Bamgboye's license.
