Jefferson Parish, Louisiana may drown in a round of lawsuits for faulty storm planning that contributed to the flooding devastation of Hurricane Katrina.  The Louisiana Supreme Court shot down the government’s argument in a 6-1 ruling, in which the government claimed that it was merely following a disaster plan already put in place by the preceding administration.

Motivated by the ruling, property owners are looking to bring a class-action lawsuit against the government.  The Louisiana Supreme Court’s decision makes clear that while there is no liability for the decisions made during the hurricane crisis, there may be liability based on a faulty “doomsday policy”.
