Graco Children’s Products Inc. is recalling approximately 1.5 million Graco strollers sold at Wal-Mart, Target and several other major retailers after receiving five reports of children putting their fingers in the stroller’s canopy hinge and having the tips of their fingers amputated when the canopy was opened or closed. Two other children sustained lacerations on their fingertips as well.
The strollers were made in China and sold between October 2004 and February 2008. The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns parents to discontinue use of the strollers and to contact Graco for free protective hinge covers.
The recall, announced on Wednesday, is the second in recent months. Maclaren strollers were also recalled after the company received 12 reports of children’s fingertips being amputated by a hinge mechanism. As a result ,the CPSC is taking steps to examine all strollers with a similar canopy hinge design to prevent further injuries.
