Dollar General Corporation and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled several toy guns on Wednesday after reports that a piece of the guns can detach and become a choking hazard for young children.

The toys are sold under the names “Special Forces Weapons and Accessories Set” or the “SWAT Play Police Equipment Set”.  Each set includes two toy guns and other related accessories.  The toys were sold in Dollar General stores between September and October 2009, and the larger gun in the set has the numbers 48JQH09 printed on the right side of the toy.

The particular piece that poses the choking hazard is an orange tip at the end of the gun barrel that is meant to distinguish the toys from real guns.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission is concerned over the ease in which the orange tip can be removed from the toy.  Although there are no choking accidents or injuries have been reported thus far.  The Commission also urges parents to immediately take the guns away from children and return them to any Dollar General store for a refund or replacement item.
