According to recent reports, a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio has discovered a vaccine that would virtually stop breast cancer in its tracks.  That doctor, Dr. Vincent Tuohy, announced that in laboratory tests on mice results indicated that the vaccine could prevent cancers from forming and stop the growth of existing tumors.

Researchers injected the test vaccine into six mice that were specifically bred to be prone to developing breast cancer.  After receiving the vaccinations, none of the mice developed any signs of tumors.  In comparison, doctors injected a control group of six similar mice with a placebo and all of those mice developed tumors.

According to the researchers, the vaccine makes the immune system attack a protein found in most breast cancer cells.  If clinical tests on humans are successful, which are scheduled to begin next year, women over 40 could be routinely vaccinated against breast cancer.
