Being a Lipitor user myself, news of a recall naturally caught my eye and I wanted to pass on the information.  Pfizer announced the recall of 191,000 bottles of the cholesterol fighting medication in August due to reports of uncharacteristic odor.

According to Rick Chambers, the spokesperson for Pfizer, the recall notice was posted on the Food and Drug Administration website on Thursday.  Overall, Pfizer recalled seven lots of Lipitor plus an additional three lots of atorvastatin, the generic name for Lipitor, which the company provided to a company in Canada.  Mr. Chambers also added that the odor is specifically from the bottles that the drug is packaged in, and that Pfizer is working closely with the bottle supplier to determine the source of the problem.

Fortunately, Pfizer has conducted a medical risk assessment given all of the information provided and has determined that Lipitor users are not likely to experience any adverse medical reactions from the medication.  However, Pfizer also plans on continuing to monitor the problem in the near future.
