Every year on our birthdays we receive our least favorite birthday present: expired vehicle registration. Beginning in October of 2022 Michigan drivers will now be granted the option of receiving that gift every other year.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who stated she is focused on making life easier for Michiganders, signed House Bill 4117 last month which gives Michigan drivers the option to renew their vehicle registration every two years rather than annually.

Unfortunately, the law will not truly save Michigan drivers any money in the long run as vehicle registration fees will remain the same.  There will be no discount offered for choosing the two-year option, however, Michigan drivers will save the time and headache of having to go down to the Secretary of State every year to renew their vehicle registration. Those willing to pay the full cost of registering their vehicle for two years will be able to take full advantage of this new option.
