Early Thursday morning, an Oak Park man was struck and killed by a wrong-way driver on Lodge Freeway in Detroit. The accident shut the road down for hours while police investigated.
According to the police, a 58-year-old woman was driving north in the southbound lanes when she slammed into a car near Grand River in Detroit. The driver of that car was 42-year-old Alan Beavers, who died at the scene.
The woman was subsequently taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries. Police say that she spent the evening prior at the Greektown Casino and believe that alcohol was factor in the accident. However, they are awaiting official toxicology reports before making an official report. Officers are still trying to determine where the woman entered the freeway going in the wrong direction.
