Former President H.W. Bush was injured after falling at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. Bush broke the C2 vertebrae in his neck. According to CNN, he remains hospitalized, in fair condition and in good spirits. He will be fitted for a neck brace and begin physical therapy over the next few days. His doctors are optimistic that his injuries will not require surgery. Bush’s physician told CNN that this type of injury usually would take three to four months to heal for someone in their 90s. At age 91, Bush is the oldest living former U.S. president. Bush is notorious for his adventurous ways, having gone skydiving on his 90th birthday.
His wife told CNN, “A slip and fall is not going to take out a World War II pilot.'” Former President Bush’s accident reminds us of the potentially catastrophic consequences of an accidental fall.
