Victoria's Secret Looks Into Creating Mastectomy Bra

Comments Off

It would seem like a natural fit, no pun intended, that Victoria's Secret would be the creator of a bra specifically designed for women who have undergone a mastectomy for breast cancer. Debbie Barrett and her daughter Allana Maiden pushed for the lingerie giant to take up the task when they posted a petition on Change.org and received over 118,000 signatures in support of a "survivor bra". VS may have heard the women's cry, as they are now in talks to develop such a bra.

The two women apparently visited Limited Brands headquarters last week, the corporation that owns VS, to discuss the potential for a survivor bra. The bra would be designed for those who have undergone a mastectomy and opted for prosthetic breasts rather than having a replacement plastic surgery with implants. It can be particularly difficult for women who have undergone a mastectomy to find a bra that fits and most are only available via the Internet.

True, mastectomy bras would be more of niche product for fewer VS customers, but it would help the company to highlight their goodwill. So far, Limited Brands has acknowledged the importance of supporting women with breast cancer but has not committed to making the line of mastectomy bras yet.
