Yesterday I wrote about an incident that occured last Thursday between two East Lansing High School students and the police. The events of that day were pretty unclear according to reports last week. However, today the LSJ released an update indicating that the two students were, in fact, charged on Thursday.

Marcus Reid was charged on Thursday with hindering, obstructing, and assaulting a police officer and one count of disorderly conduct. The other student, Hodan Sharif, is a minor and faces charges of disorderly conduct and disorderly obstruction in probate court.

According to Kim Johnson, the captain of the East Lansing Police Department, the incident began shortly before noon on Thursday. Apparently, Marcus assaulted an ELPD resource officer as he was attempting to escort a female student from the school after she was suspended. The police maintain that the student was combative with officers and so they were forced to taser him. However, Reid’s mother argues that the police used excessive force to restrain the young man, especially since he was already restrained on the ground by four officers.

At this point, I’m unsure what to make of this situation…it’s up to you to decide your opinion.
