As 2014 winds down and you reflect on the past year, hopefully you have lots of happy and meaningful memories.  Even so, there are probably a number of things you’d like to improve on in 2015.  This time of year, it’s easy to find lists of tips to help you improve your physical health.  And while it’s important to have a healthy body, mental and emotional health is at least equally essential.

Tips for 2015

Here are three helpful tips, condensed from multiple sources, to give you a good head start for a healthy new year:

  • Don’t Ignore Your Emotions: The first step toward improved mental and emotional health is acknowledging the need for it. If certain feelings, particularly negative feelings, linger for more than a few days or two weeks at the most, it’s important to do something about them.  Depression can be a serious problem that many people don’t recognize until it gets out of hand.
  • Let Yourself Feel Good: Confidence and self-esteem are important weapons in the battle against emotional pain. This might be easier said than done, but being well-prepared for the task at hand and ignoring anticipated criticism (that may or may not ever materialize) are good starting points.
  • Heal the Pain: Breaking the cycle of negativity can be difficult.  Focus on accomplishing tasks that require concentration.  Divide seemingly impossible challenges into manageable, attainable goals.  And if you need help, do not hesitate to seek it out.

HAVE A SAFE, HAPPY, AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR!
