It’s Time To Get Involved In Michigan’s Auto Insurance Showdown

Comments Off

Earlier this month I wrote about potential changes to auto insurance laws in Michigan. These laws will help level the playing field and protect consumers from profit-hungry corporations. But in order for the proposed legislation to become law, your state representatives and senators must pass these bills.

This is the part of the process where you, the consumer, have a chance to be heard. Auto insurance companies will spend mind-boggling amounts of time and money to oppose the passage of these laws. You may not have the cash flow to compete with these corporations, but you have something even better – a vote.

In Michigan, if you own a car, you are required to purchase auto insurance. However, most people know very little about how insurance companies operate. A quick glance at the facts is enough to convince most consumers that the deck is stacked in favor of corporations rather than individuals.

So, what can you do? The answer is surprisingly simple: get involved. Call, write, or e-mail your representatives and senators and let them know that you expect them to vote in favor of consumers and not huge, multibillion dollar industries. Remind them that you have a vote, and if they’re not willing to protect your interests you’ll find someone else who will. Auto insurance companies will make sure their point of view is heard. This is your chance to have a say in the process, too.
