Maryland Jury Awards Woman $3.5 Million for Medical Malpractice Suit

Comments Off

Harford County, Maryland—a 53-year-old woman won a $3.5 million medical malpractice verdict earlier this month against two surgeons and their business after undergoing a disastrous surgery that left her paraplegic.

Victoria Little underwent surgery for blocked arteries in 2007 at Vascular Surgery Associates. According to her attorneys, the surgeons, Dr. James Cardea and Dr. Scott Kurlander, used an improper grafting technique that led to blood loss and various injuries, including damage to her spinal cord. As a result, Little is paraplegic and unable to walk.

On May 13, 2010 a jury held the two surgeons responsible for Little’s injuries. Specifically, the jury awarded Little $1.3 million in non-economic damages, $2 million for future medical bills, and $200,000 for prior bills.
