Pharmaceutical Company Recalling Excedrin and Other Medicines Over Bottling Mix-Up

Comments Off

The pharmaceutical company Novartis is recalling bottles of Excedrin, NoDoz, Bufferin, and Gas-X because the bottles may contain stray pills from other medicines or chipped and broken tablets. The company also announced earlier that they are shutting down a Lincoln, Nebraska plant for "maintenance and other improvement activities".

The recall is voluntary and Novartis says it is working with the Food and Drug Administration to remedy the problem. It apparently discovered the problem when conducting an internal review that revealed that bottling inconsistencies were creating a mix-up of medications, which could create a potential danger for consumers who could inadvertently take an incorrect medicine. However, the company says that no consumers have reported allergic reactions or medicine interaction problems because of the mix-up.

Bottles affected by the recall include Excedrin medication with expiration dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier, as well as bottles of Bufferin and Gas-X with expiration dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier. The company says it will post more information on its website and that consumers can call the company for more information, too.
