Peg Perego Recalls 223,000 Strollers After Baby Strangles to Death

Comments Off

Parents beware: Peg Perego has recalled approximately 223,000 strollers after receiving reports of child strangulation and entrapment. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, one 6-month-old boy in Tarzana, CA got his head caught between the seat and tray of a Peg Perego stroller and died of strangulation.

The company warns that strangulation and entrapment can occur if a child is not properly buckled into the stroller. Children may slide down between the tray and seat bottom, trapping their head. The recall involves two strollers–the Venezia and Pliko-P3, which were sold between 2004 and 2010 nationwide. The only affected strollers are those with a single cup holder tray attached.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact the company for a free repair kit. Do not return the stroller to a retailer because they will not be able to provide the kit. Consumers can also visit the CPSC report to learn the full list of affected strollers. Additional information can also be obtained at the Peg Perego website.
