Recently, the U.S. Senate heard testimony from several witnesses who argue that research shows cell phones have a negative impact on human health. In fact, the Senate Committee is concerned over evidence revealed in 2008 that linked cell phone use and salivary or brain tumors.

Dr. Siegal Sadetzki, who testified in September 2009 at the U.S. Senate Hearing, is responsible for the study that originally discovered the health impacts of cell phone use. Her study found that individuals are at a higher risk of developing a parotid tumor on the side of their head that they use to listen on their cell phones. Furthermore, she also discovered that the risk of developing a tumor increases by:

  • 34% if an individual is a regular cell phone user and uses a cell phone for 5 years.
  • 58% if you take or make 5,500 calls in your lifetime.
  • 49% if you have spoken on the phone more than 266.3 hours in your lifetime.

Please watch the video below for the live footage of the Senate hearing.

The following video is additional testimony from the group Electromagnetichealth.org, which was filmed at Columbia University Law School. Electromagnetichealth.org argues that cell phone use creates cognitive problems, damages DNA and causes infertility in humans. Additionally, they also argue that cell phones cause navigation problems for wildlife, including birds and bees and other animals.
