Stay Safe this Memorial Day Weekend

Comments Off

While it is always sage advice to practice defensive driving, law enforcement officials are especially encouraging travelers to keep their cool and stay alert this Memorial Day weekend.

The State of Michigan estimates that 1.1 million people will be hitting the roads for the holiday weekend. In anticipation, the state has halted most road construction projects. Nevertheless, drivers are still cautioned to adhere to decreased speed limits on the highways even though construction workers will not be present at the work sites over the holiday.

Last year there were 10 crashes and 11 fatalities during the holiday weekend. While that’s less than in previous years, we can always hope for no automobile accidents and can make that that as much of a reality as possible by avoiding road rage and abiding by speed limits and other traffic safety signs.

If you’re still looking for some fun in the sun this weekend, the Lansing State Journal recently outlined various events that will be going on this Memorial Day holiday. There are many local parades scheduled beginning this evening, as well as memorial services for our country’s service men and women.

No matter whether you choose to stay in town, travel within Michigan, or out of the mitten state, stay safe and have an enjoyable and relaxing Memorial Day weekend!
