Road Rage Rears Its Ugly Head in 5-Car Pile-Up

Comments Off

A 5-car crash that shut down M-6 in Byron Township, Michigan, was the result of road rage, according to officials. On April 16, an SUV traveling westbound crossed the median and hit a semi-truck head-on. The semi, in an attempt to avoid the SUV, swerved into an adjoining lane and struck a passenger car. Two other vehicles collided as they tried to avoid the ensuing carnage. One man was seriously injured.

The accident was reportedly sparked by an incident of road rage involving the driver of the SUV and another driver who left the scene. According to police, the two drivers were engaging in high-speed lane changes and tailgating. The second driver later called authorities to indicate his involvement in the events preceding the crash.

Road rage and aggressive driving are extremely dangerous phenomena. Not only are the participants at risk, but everyone on or near the road could be affected by one driver’s temper. While it’s probably not possible to avoid these situations entirely, there are a few things you can do to reduce the danger of becoming involved. Drive defensively and give yourself ample time to reach your destination. Don’t take other drivers’ actions personally. Try not to drive when you are angry or agitated – give yourself time to cool down. If you practice safe and courteous driving, you’re more likely to avoid injury.
