Man Uses Cellphone to Stop Hit-and-Run Driver Who Killed Young Mother

Comments Off

Cellphones can do amazing things these days. Granted, I have written several times on the dangers of using a cellphone while driving, but cellphone technology can also be very useful after a car accident has occured. For example, recently a cellphone video recording helped to nab a hit-and-run driver who killed a mother and injured her two children.

Bradley Howard ran through a red light in Ypsilanti Township in 2010, causing a five-car pileup that resulted in the death of the mother and the injuries to her two children. Instead of sitting idly by, Kenyatta Smith pulled out his cellphone and began to call 911. However, after realizing that police had already arrived, Smith started to record the aftermath of the accident–including when Bradley Howard tried to walk away from the scene.

As Howard, who was intoxicated, attempted to walk away from the scene, Smith and others kept him from walking away. He now faces a minimum of 22.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to numerous charges, including second-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Stephanie Joyce Stone. Watch Smith's video below (WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS PROFANITY AND GRAPHIC FOOTAGE).
