Florida Crash Kills One, Injuries Over a Dozen at Daycare Center

A Kindercare daycare center in Winter Park, Florida is reeling after a Toyota Solara convertible hopped the curb after being rear-ended by a Dodge Durango and crashed through the wall of the center.  The accident killed one little girl and injured at least 14 others, mainly children.  Authorities are looking for the driver of the Durango; they discovered the vehicle abandoned at a home several hours later, but suspect that it was a 26-year-old resident who’s been arrested at least 8 other times since 2000 who’s responsible for the current accident.

Suspect Has Long History of Drug Abuse and Fleeing the Scene of a Crime

The 26-year-old suspect, Robert Carchado, has served prison time for trafficking cocaine and extortion.  His most recent crimes involved felony charges of selling narcotics and possession last year, in addition to a misdemeanor charge of fleeing the scene of another car accident that resulted in damage.  Authorities believe Carchado may be attempting to flee the country, and deputies and troopers were heading to the Orlando International Airport to prevent him from doing so.

Footage Shows Heartbreaking Scene at Kindercare

Footage following the accident showed people removing small children from the Kindercare daycare center and into the playground area.  Small babies in cribs were also shown being removed from the scene, as well as several of the injured on stretchers.  Highway Patrol reports say that the injured were taken to five different hospitals, with one little girl dying upon arrival at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.  Six others were reported as either in serious or critical condition.
