Fatal Car Crash on US-127 Near Lansing Claims 3 Lives

Comments Off

A tragic auto accident resulted in 3 deaths yesterday afternoon on a stretch of highway north of Lansing, Michigan. The collision occurred on US-127 north of I-69 in DeWitt Township and prompted law enforcement officials to close the southbound lanes of the highway for about 5 hours.

According to reports, a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling northbound suddenly veered across the median into the southbound lanes. Two vehicles were able to dodge the truck before it smashed into a van head-on. Both vehicles sustained catastrophic damage. Two people traveling in the truck and one person in the van were killed.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday. Although it had been raining intermittently throughout the day, it is not yet clear if weather was a factor in the auto accident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it may be weeks before authorities know what caused the truck to cross the median. The resulting back-up of traffic caused another collision, but those involved were apparently uninjured.

Over the past two or three years, the State of Michigan has been installing cable median barriers in an effort to prevent certain “wrong-way crashes” and median cross-over accidents.
