Falling Pizza Causes One-Car Accident

There are many ways to get distracted while driving–from eating, putting on makeup to texting and driving, but what about a falling pizza?  Yep, that too can cause a distracted driving accident, at least for one Detroit Lion it did.  Nate Burleson, a receiver for the Detroit Lions football team, broke his arm during a one car accident.  The broken arm required surgery and his season of playing football also appears to be on the line.

Pizza Falls on Front Seat, Results in Broken Arm

According to Burleson’s account of the accident, a pizza fell off his front seat while he was driving around 2 a.m.  While distracted by the falling pizza, he lost control of the car and struck the median center wall.  Burleson was thankfully wearing a seat belt, so his injuries weren’t life-threatening, although he was taken to a nearby ER to tend to his broken arm.

Second Broken Limb in Two Years for Detroit Lion

Unfortunately, this is the second break for Burleson in the past two years.  Last year he was placed on injured reserve because of a broken leg.  Detroit lost 8 out of 10 games without Burleson; he is considered a leader in the Lions’ locker room and the one that most of the other players look to for advice.  Although this story has a hint of humor in it considering that the accident was caused by a falling pizza, it’s  no more a laughing matter than someone getting into an accident because they were distracted by a cellphone, makeup brush, or a fast food hamburger.
